How to ride the DART Rail to Fort Work

For anyone outside of walking or biking range, our #1 recommended way to get to Fort Work is to ride the DART rail. This is a step by step guide to reaching Fort Work by DART Rail from anywhere in DFW

UPDATED 12/16/2014 to include Ticket Purchasing Advice section and clarity on Love Field route (kudos to Mick Jones for the advice)

Ticket Purchasing Advice

It is important to note that while extremely cheap, the DART Light Rail is not free. One must purchase a ticket to ride lawfully.

Our recommended method is to download the GoPass app for your smartphone and purchase either a 2 hour pass ($2.50) or an all-day pass ($5.00) depending on if you intend to DART back as well. Make sure that you activate your GoPass ticket before boarding or you may face a penalty for attempting to skip the fare.

You can also purchase a ticket from the ticket machines at every station, but please note you must purchase a ticket before your ride. There is no way to purchase a ticket once aboard. DART is very active about enforcement and attempting to ride the DART without payment will result in a $75 fine and removal from the train.

The $2.50 ride or $5 day pass are easily worth it when you consider the alternative: A car payment, gas, roadway tolls, traffic, and parking. A typical driving and parking commuter can spend up to $30/day maintaining their use of a private vehicle. It’s also half the price of the minimum fare on Uber or Lyft for a round trip.
